About
Olawumi Praise Samuel
green3eart
I am Olawumi Praise Samuel, known on social media as green3eart. Based between Ibadan and Akure, Nigeria, I am a contemporary artist working in oil and acrylic on canvas and paper.
I trained as a direct apprentice under the contemporary artist Adewale Kolawole John, and painted for his first solo show, “Sakara Maestros,” at Hourglass Gallery.
I have been practising for two and a half years. My work reflects on humanity and the world we live in as a whole; its occurrences, its shortfalls, across the political, social, emotional, family, and religious spheres.
Each piece goes through a deliberate process. I begin by texturing a primed canvas, creating a rough surface beneath smooth, detailed linework, a contrast between roughness and smoothness that mirrors the story each piece tells. I then choose a colour theme and visual components that best serve that story and its reference.
